L-O-S-T, Season 5, Episode 13 ("Some Like it Hoth")

Doc Jensen's teaser article is here; his review is here; and Totally Lost is here.

_______

I started the discussion on Friday 4/17:

I can't believe we didn't talk about this, this week! What did you guys think? So one of the new guys who landed nabbed Miles earlier. What lies in the shadow of the statue? Doesn't that sound like some bad line from a Chevy Chase movie gone awry?

Hurley had the best line of the show so far, "dude ewoks suck" ! Great episode, I like how they tied in the 3.2 million dollars Miles asked Ben for last year to forgot about him. I think Bram and Ilana may be a third group possibly not connected with Ben or Widmore.

Agreed.... but they actually maybe be tied to the Others somehow... if they know about the Temple in the middle of the Wall (that Ben said they built to protect it from people like the Tailies)...

Oh, and once again.. the comedic timing of Miles and Hurley is great.... reminds me of the repoire with Hurley and Charlie... except where Charlie is sweet, Miles is all smart-alecky...

I don't remember Ilana or Bram mentioning the temple?

As usual, great episode. I really enjoy the Hurley-Miles dynamic. I think my favorite part was Hurley watching them stamp the numbers into the hatch…his resignation and sadness at seeing the numbers crop up yet again was very well done.

BUT, I’m wondering how Miles can be in the same time as his younger self. That doesn’t seem right.

I don't think they know about the temple. I have a crack pot theory that they may be the government, the army lost a H-bomb on the island in 1954, they had taken photos of it as we saw in the lamp post station, they are the only group to have a secret question, other than Kelvin and the snowman question he asked Des. Kelvin was ex-CIA too and was with the army in Iraq. Interesting I think that we have seen a lot of flashbacks with the army, 1954, Iraq, Kate's dad at the recruiting station and then Kate's dad again in Sydney.

I think there is no rule about being in the same time frame as themselves. Even though we see Miles with himself as a baby we have also seen people on the island at the same time as themselves in other seasons, like when Kate was helping Claire giving birth. They were all on that island along with their past selves. So maybe it is not a rule. Maybe it is ok for them to be around their past selves. Maybe that is why they are showing it with Miles- to prove to us that they are making the rules go the way they want, not how we expect them to be.
